Bassist Peter Brendler grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He began his musical studies on electric bass, but soon gravitated towards the upright bass. In addition to playing upright and electric bass, Peter also plays guitar and piano. He has studied with such greats as Jay Anderson, Hal Crook, Garry Dial and Dave Liebman.
Peter has been living in New York since 2001. During that time, he has made numerous sideman appearances on recordings of all styles. Peter’s main focus is jazz, but he is also a dedicated classical bass player and has studied extensively with wornd renowned bassists Kurt Muroki and John Feency. Futhermore, Peter also maintains an active career performing and recording on electric bass. He has performed at several world famous venues in New York, and thoughout the country, including The Blue Note, Birdland, The Jazz Stamdard. The Kennedy Cemter. The Iridium,. Mezzrow, and Smalls Jazz Club.
Peter has roured extensively in Europe with many artists including the Jon Irbagon trio with artists such as John Abercrombie, Barry Altschul, Bruce Barth,Billy Drewes, Billy Drummond, Jon Inbagon, Frank Kimbrough, Ben Monder, Victor Lewis, Rich Perry, Tom Raney, Steve Slagle and Chris Speed. In addition to his humerous sidemand appearances, Peter has also recorded three albums as a leader/co-leader. These include a duo album with the late master guitarist John Abercrombie (“The Angle Below” 2013, Steeplechase Records) and two albums for PostTone records (“Outside the Line” 2014) and (“Message in Motion”) featuring Rich Perry, Peter Evans, Ben Monder and Vinnie Sperrazza.
