Announcing Northwoods Jazz Camp 2025
Directed by Kimberly Ford at
Holiday Acres Resort, Rhinelander, Wisconsin
![]() Kimberly Ford, Vocals The 2025 Northwoods Jazz Camp will run from Tuesday evening through Friday, May 6-9, 2025. Aspiring students of jazz from college age to seniors are always welcome. Younger students are accepted if they are accompanied by parent, guardian or other responsible adult. A faculty of jazz professionals teach instrumental/vocal master classes, improvisation, jazz listening (how to listen, and who to listen to, old and new), modern jazz combo and big band playing, with concerts each night (open to the public) where advanced students sit in with the professionals. A major “perk” is students hanging out with the faculty at meals and at the bar, story sessions (i.e. about the big bands), and jam sessions. The students can be players or non-players (auditors). No prior expertise is required. A spouse or other family member who is not a student is welcome to stay free with the student and to take advantage of a special discounted meal package. The enjoyment of the resort facilities, pool, and surrounding woods and water are an important part of the Holiday Acres experience. This will be an intimate event with 25-28 students maximum. |
In Memoriam![]() Kim Richmond, Founding Director Kim Richmond, our founding Northwoods Jazz Camp Director, passed away September 20, 2024, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Kim and his wife Chris Zambon have carried on the Northwoods Jazz Camp tradition at Holiday Acres for the past 19 years. It was Kim’s wish that we continue the camp in his absence. Kim Richmond had a profound impact on all of us who knew him — both musically and personally. It is our hope and desire that some of what made Kim so special will be carried on for many years through the Northwoods Jazz Camp. Kim was a prince of a man, generous with his time and fervently committed to his art. He was a consummate saxophonist and flautist as well as a brilliant, multi-Grammy-nominated arranger and composer, still working on new compositions until the last few weeks of his life. Let’s honor Kim with a spirited Northwoods Jazz Camp 2025 and find comfort in being together, playing his music, and sharing our stories. |
