Andy Baker, trombonist

Trombonist, composer, and conductor Andrew Baker, originally from London, began his professional career at 14, performing on recordings and TV by age 18. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music, performing with the Covent Garden Festival Orchestra, Desford Colliery Band, and National Youth Jazz Orchestra. After graduation, he toured with the Ray Gelato Giants and freelanced in London’s music scene before relocating to Chicago in 2001. There, he joined Jon Faddis’s Chicago Jazz Ensemble (2006-2012) and became a core member of Fulcrum Point New Music Project in 2010.

Baker co-founded the bands BakerzMillion and New Standard Jazz Orchestra and taught at Northwestern University, Elmhurst College, before joining the University of Illinois, Chicago in 2013. A graduate of DePaul University, he is active as a guest artist, clinician, and performer in jazz, classical, and commercial music. Andy is a Michael Rath Trombones and Denis Wick performing artist.
