Dear Jazz Students,
Time to start thinking about Jazz Camp which is right around the corner!
Due to the Pandemic we are planning on holding our Northwoods Jazz Camp and Santa Barbara Jazz Workshop online using the Zoom format againthis year. If things change and it becomes safe (and we all hope it will) we will certainly revert to our former “live and in-person” version. We will keep you posted.

Online Zoom session latency
For anyone who has tried to play music with others on Zoom, you have noticed the “time latency” challenge, whereby everything is slightly out of time, as much as a 1/2 second. We have remedied this by again structuring our classes with prerecorded backgrounds (like minus one recordings) and a host of simple and successful exercises.
One week prior to each camp, we will hold a one-hour Zoom orientationsession for all students. TBA

The Northwoods Jazz Camp and Santa Barbara Jazz Workshops will offer slightly different faculties, giving students an opportunity to study with a variety of educators so why not enroll in both camps?

Tuition Fee: $275 – 3 full days of instruction & jam sessions Deadlines for registration: April 11, 2021 -Northwoods Camp   June 11, 2021 Santa Barbara Workshop

*Special Bonus for signing up for both camps include a masterclass with one of our instructors!

Our Daily Schedules Includes:
Jazz Theory/Improv (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced)
Learn the nuts and bolts of how music is built (beginning) as well as the more advanced and complex elements (advanced). Stretch your ear and creativity in these three levels of jazz theory and improv; available on all instruments including voice. Choose whatever level is right for you.

Master Classes
Our world-class instructors will offer interactive masterclasses specific to each instrument.

Special Sessions
Faculty will perform for the students followed by an open interactive Q & A session. In addition, the faculty will offer demonstrative excerpts as well as instructive and helpful feedback.

Jazz combos and play down evening jams
Evening jams offer the opportunity for everyone to perform. As previously mentioned, pre-recorded original arrangements (minus your particular instrument) will be made available to all students in advance. These will serve as your “minus one” background tracks to be used during the evening jam and for your final performance.

Final night performance
Because it is virtual, there is an unlimited guest list for this final performance. Invite friends and family!  Each student has a chance to choose and perform a combo selection, choosing a song from the numerous tracks available on your specific backing tracks.

We are more than happy to answer any questions you might have about either the Northwoods Jazz Camp or the Santa Barbara Jazz Workshop. It would be wonderful to see you at either (or both!) camps.

Hope to chat with you soon,

Kim Richmond & Kimberly Ford
